Trail builders, planners, and land managers from across the globe are heading to Derby, Tasmania, this December for the first-ever PTBA Oceania Conference—a landmark event for the international trail industry.

Running 9–11 December 2025, the event marks the Professional TrailBuilders Association’s (PTBA) first conference held outside North America and will bring together leaders from Australia, Asia, and beyond to share ideas, swap expertise, and shape the future of trail development.

Derby is an inspired choice. Once a quiet mining town, it’s now a world-class riding destination—and one of the best examples of how great trails can transform a community. “Derby is the perfect place for this global conversation,” said PTBA Executive Director Aaryn Kay. “Its transformation from a historic mining town into one of the world’s premier trail destinations shows the power of trails to drive economic growth, community revitalisation, and outdoor recreation. Bringing the world’s trail experts here will help accelerate that impact across the region and beyond.”

The program features classroom sessions, field demonstrations, and hands-on workshops covering everything from trail design and construction to maintenance, management, and sustainable development. Expect discussions on evolving industry standards, workforce training, and the future of trail building across Oceania and beyond.

Beyond the formal sessions, the event will be about connection, bringing together people who live and breathe trails to share knowledge and build lasting networks. Attendance is capped at 180 participants to keep things personal and collaborative.

Registration is now open for anyone working in trail development, outdoor recreation, or land management.
