AMB #218 is out now

There are plenty of ways to tell a mountain bike story, but sometimes one photograph can do the job better than a thousand words.

Max Hobson 08.09.2026

That’s certainly the case in AMB Issue #218, where more than 30 pages are dedicated to the 2026 AMB Photography Awards. Once again, Australian photographers have delivered everything from perfectly timed moments of chaos to images that capture the quieter side of riding, the landscapes we get to move through and the people who make mountain biking what it is.

Inside the issue, we reveal the winners across all four Photography Awards categories, along with the 2026 Photographer of the Year and Young Photographer of the Year. This year’s selection is a reminder of just how much talent exists behind the lens in Australian mountain biking.

And while the Photo Awards deserve plenty of space, there’s a lot more riding packed into #218.

Tasmania’s capital keeps delivering

We head south to Hobart, a city that has a pretty compelling claim as one of Australia’s best capitals for mountain bikers. With serious riding sitting remarkably close to the city, it’s the sort of place where a trip can revolve around singletrack without giving up everything else that makes a few days away worthwhile.

The feature looks at what makes Hobart such an appealing MTB destination and why Tasmania continues to find its way onto riders’ travel lists.

E-MTB riding, Norwegian style

Further from home, we head to Norway for a spectacular eMTB feature. Big landscapes and electric assistance make for an interesting combination, opening up the opportunity to cover ground while exploring terrain far removed from the familiar Australian trail network.

Rethinking bike security

Closer to home, we meet Australian startup Raklox and look at its journey towards reimagining bike security. For anyone who has ever nervously glanced back at an expensive bike leaning outside a café, it’s a subject that hardly needs explaining.

Skills, fitness, workshop advice and more

As always, Issue #218 also brings together advice from AMB’s regular experts, covering riding skills, nutrition, fitness and workshop know-how. Our columnists take a look at life around mountain biking, while the gear section delivers the latest reviews and equipment worth knowing about.

There’s news from across the sport too, giving you plenty to work through once you’ve finished lingering over the Photo Awards.
