While the sports nutrition industry is booming, it’s still quite uncommon to find products that are developed and manufactured in Australia. We tested the Australian brand Flow Nutrition’s Recovery Bar, developed by sports dietitians and nutritionists and based on evidence-based research, specifically to meet the needs of adventure and action-sports athletes.
With a keen finger on the pulse of cutting-edge research into recovery and nutrition, Flow’s Recovery Bars use 100% natural ingredients and are gluten-free and easy on the gut. Flow also makes several plant-based products, catering to vegan athletes.
With 21g of protein in each bar, these recovery bars are a simple and convenient way to meet post-ride or race recovery needs while out and about. We tested the choc-coconut flavour, and the Recovery Bar is also available in a plant-based peanut butter flavour.
Our Take
Flow Nutrition’s Recovery Bars are a nice middle ground – with a moist and chewy texture that is easy to get down, even on hot days or when feeling like a smashed crab after a big race or ride. The choc-coconut flavour is pleasant – more choc-adjacent than coconut – and the test team appreciated the portability of these bars.

While downing a recovery shake can be easier than chewing, the ability to simply throw a few Recovery Bars in your training bag, or have them ready to go in the car after a big session, is a huge advantage – after all, the best training recovery food is what’s easily accessible and actually eaten.
With 21g of protein, the Recovery Bars are great for post-session recovery or as a high-protein snack. However, if using them specifically for recovery, they only contain 12g of carbohydrate, so remember to refuel those glycogen stores as well.
Overall, we loved using Flow Recovery Bars to support training and recovery, and will certainly be purchasing more to keep on hand in the training bag.
