Silverback Unveils SilverRider MTB and FAT E-Bikes
Silverback’s new Silver Series combines Shimano EP801 power, an 820Wh battery and a comfort-focused frame design across two distinct hardtail e-bike models.
The hardtail e-bike category has seen a resurgence in recent years as riders look for simpler, lower maintenance alternatives to full suspension e-bikes, you know the kind that get smashed into gutters and have a terminal rattle? Silverback’s new Silver Series aims to tap into that trend with two distinct models built around a comfort-focused frame platform and Shimano’s latest e-bike technology.
Unveiled in Germany last week, the new range includes an aggressive down country-style SilverRider MTB and the more burly SilverRider FAT, both sharing Silverback’s patent pending S-TEC (Seat Absorption Technology) system and unconventional S-Shape frame design. The concept is centred around reducing rider fatigue and improving comfort without relying on traditional rear suspension. It’s not like anything we’ve seen before.

Both bikes use Shimano’s EP801 motor, delivering 85Nm of torque, paired with a BMZ 820Wh battery. The SilverRider MTB is aimed at mountain biking and getting further off the beaten track, it comes equipped with a Fox 34 Rhythm fork offering 130mm of travel, Shimano XT Di2 electronic shifting and 29 x 3.0in tyres.

The SilverRider FAT takes a different approach. Built around 26 x 4.8in tyres and a Manitou Mastodon Comp fork with 120mm of travel, it’s designed for riders who favour loose surfaces such as sand, snow and rocky terrain where traditional mountain bikes might fall short.

Beyond the frame design, Silverback has incorporated a number of practical features across the range, including integrated front and rear lights powered by the main battery, USB-C device charging, hidden cable routing and easy battery access. The company has also highlighted the use of recycled materials, water-based paints and localised European production as part of the project’s sustainability focus.

For Australian riders, the most interesting aspect may be Silverback’s attempt to rethink the hardtail e-bike rather than simply adding more suspension travel. Whether that comfort-focused approach resonates with riders remains to be seen, but the Silver Series certainly stands out in a market crowded with increasingly similar looking e-bikes.

The SilverRider MTB and SilverRider FAT are scheduled to begin delivery from July 2026
