RockShox Drops a Butter-Loaded New BoXXer
Watch out if you’re lactose intolerant – the new BoXXer features even more Butter!
The BoXXer is a stalwart of the World Cup racing scene, and RockShox have unveiled a host of technical upgrades to make their DH fork even better. Also, don’t miss RockShox’s updates to the Vivid shock.
Linear XL – rethinking the air spring
At the core of the new BoXXer is Linear XL, a whole-fork approach to air spring design that reduces speed sensitivity and focuses on position-based control. The result is a consistently linear spring curve: supple off the top, supportive through the mid-stroke, and backed by a jounce bottom-out system for controlled end-stroke behaviour.

The AirAnnex – the little chamber on the airspring side – is the key to managing air volume. IT increases lower-leg air space to reduce unwanted progressivity, while breather ports in the stanchions allow pressure to equalise as the fork moves through its travel. Together, these features lower breakaway force and deliver a more consistent feel regardless of speed or impact severity.
Charger 3.2: quiet control
Matched to Linear XL is the Charger 3.2 damper, re-tuned to complement the fork’s position-sensitive spring characteristics: increased damping to offset the reduced friction of the new BoXXer. Independent high- and low-speed compression circuits provide clear, usable adjustment, while internal refinements focus on reducing noise and unwanted vibration.
BoXXer sticks with 38mm stanchions, balancing torsional stiffness with reduced deflection and vibration compared to oversized designs. New alignment markings on the crown simplify setup, helping ensure proper torque sequencing and bushing alignment without guesswork.
Yeehaw, let’s jump on the ButterWagon!
RockShox has also doubled down on friction and fatigue reduction with its brand-spanking-new ButterWagonTech. This new tech uses a textured stanchion surface to continuously carry oil to the bushings, maintaining lubrication throughout the unit and decreasing friction. THe new BoXXer of course also features ButterCups that isolate high-frequency vibration – and they’re claimed to reduce trail chatter by up to 20% – helping manage arm pump on long, rough tracks. SKF-developed wiper seals further reduce drag deep in the travel.

Available in Ultimate and Select trims, the new BoXXer delivers the same core spring philosophy across the range, with differences focused on damping adjustability and friction reduction to increase performance. The common thread is a fork designed to stay consistent run after run, rather than feeling brilliant one moment and unpredictable the next.
