Ridng my regular trails has become faster and faster due to new bike tech mixed with some new found fitness, this also means that when you go down, you go down hard.

Over the past few months I’ve managed to go down hard landing mainly knee first at the most inconveinent time, ( is there a conveinent time?) This usually puts me out for at least a week, so I decided to buy myself a pair of knee pads that

1. you could pedal in for more than an hour

2. well ventilated

3. had a large shell to land on

So I ended up with the One Industries Conflict Knee Pad.

These look a little different to the current crop of pads that harden on impact. The main knee cup is constructed from thick, hard moulded foam, with separate upper and lower sections made from the same hard foam to extend coverage and improve movement whist pedalling. This leaves you with a very comfortable yet light but big pad.

I manged to get my hands on a medium size pair which fit my knee nicely so when i was at mid pedal stroke the still sat slightly off the knee cap.

I’ve used these for 4/5hr epic rides where they becomenoticeable but on shorter 1hr rides you usually forget you are wearing them. They have survived everything from dirtjump bailouts to fire road washouts and they still sat in place due to the two heavy duty velcro straps, which, as a nice touch have rubber tabs on them to stop the ends from fraying. While having a large frontal section there is soft foam around the sides which can still take some impact from fallen brances etc without ripping.

I found them very comfortable but make sure you try a few sizes first as I would normally wear a small but medium was a better fit.
