Absa Cape Epic: The Gallery
Ask just about any mountain biker who doesn't mind a spot of racing and a marathon, and chances are their bucket list event will be the Absa Cape Epic.
Ask just about any mountain biker who doesn’t mind a spot of racing and a marathon, and chances are their bucket list event will be the Absa Cape Epic. And why not? It’s a full service race in the Western Cape of South Africa. It offers a climate similar to our own, but enough varied environment to make it an adventure.
The racing is full on, it’s one of the highest ranked mountain bike stage races in the world, and there’s every chance you will be rubbing shoulders with world and olympic champions on the start line or in the dining tent.
This year’s race was won by Christoph Sauser and Jaroslav Kulhavy, with Sauser winning his 5th Cape Epic title. The women’s title was won by Ariane Kleinhans and Annika Langvad. Just like any year, some great Australians were racing, such as Shaun Lewis and Andrew Blair from Specialized Racing Australia, and Peter Selkrig and Garry James, who even made the podium on the final stage for the Grand Masters category.
The Epic puts on a great show, so here’s a gallery of some of our favourite images from the eight days of racing.
