In preperation for an upcoming trip to Canada (can you say Crankworx!), I opted for a new beefier fork on the Rocky Mountain Altitude I’ll be taking over there. There is absolutely nothing wrong with stock Fox 34 that came on the bike I’ll still use these for full on racing, but for big trail riding that I will be doing I wanted a fork that was a bit stiffer, where i could adjust the travel for any extended climbs and would also save me the hassle of hiring a full blown DH rig.
Bring on the 2015 Fox 36 Talas 130-160mm, I decided on these as I will be doing alot of trail riding in the area as well as a fair few days in the bike park, Fox have worked on a new high performance Kashima coating giving the fork an even smoother plush feel. With both high-speed and low-speed compression settings you should be able to really tune this fork to taste.
Fox have also come up with a new Bath oil called Gold Oil, which is said to give a 33% reduction in in friction combined with a redsigned SKF seal head a longer shaft bushing for improved radial support and 60% reduction in damper shaft friction, the FIT damper has also had some work done to it with a new FIT Compression Tune, Reduction in damper and chassis friction requires new valve tune and Increased mid-speed and high speed compression forces leaving us with a very very smooth feeling fork.
I didn’t even have to buy a new wheel as the fork comes with both a 20mm and a 15mm axle so I saved a few $$$ there, the axles are secured by a pinch bolt system usually found on the Fox 40, providing extra strength and shaving weight at the same time.
The weight of the 160mm 36 27.5 Talas version is exactly the same as my 160mm 34, the Float version of the same fork will save you close to 200 grams.
I’ll give you a bigger, better run down when I come back from overseas
